Habitat 141 Mural

This outstanding mural was designed and produced by the students at Dunkeld Consolidated School (prep through year 6 at the Glenthompson and Dunkeld campuses) and presented to participants at the Habitat 141 Alliance meeting in Dunkeld, 9–10 September 2008.

The project was conceptualised by Now for Future and sponsored by Parks Victoria as a way of connecting the Dunkeld community with the Habitat 141 Alliance meeting being held in Dunkeld.

The mural captures the students' understanding of the "Habitat 141" project and portrays landscape-scale connectivity running from the outback to the ocean.

All 66 students at the school worked on the mural – even the prep students left their mark with finger-print leaves on the trees. The project was embraced by School Principal Patrick Gleeson and guided by Art Teacher Lee Fisher.

The work is 3.2m long by 1m high, on five panels. It is a combination of poster paint, printing and collage. Click on the link below to download the mural and explore its wealth of detail.

Itself a work of art, this poster features a series of photos and quotes from students during the creation of the mural. Some valuable lessons for us all about collaboration and caring for our planet.
